About Our Markets

Since 2009 KTI has held four Local Produce Markets a year in Kingsley, with the idea that we encourage and promote local business while helping people realise that there is an answer to the supermarkets and larger business.

The markets continue to be successful and have expanded to take on local crafts, advertise local business and services and help the schools, youth groups, churches and local clubs/societies raise awareness and funds.

2016 Market Dates

The dates are set for our 2016 markets and are as follows:

  • 19 March 2016
  • 11 June 2016
  • 17 September 2016
  • 10 December 2016

So why buy local?

Support the local economy

Local jobs are important and by purchasing local produce you are are helping protect these jobs and the local economy.

Environment and Landscape Management

There are plenty of reasons why buying locally grown food is good for you:-

  • Local products will have travelled a shorter distance putting less CO2 into the atmosphere. Another benefit of reduced travelling time is that the products are fresher and taste better - locally grown food was probably picked within the past day or two and will therefore be loaded with flavour when compared with "fresh" food that has spent a week on a lorry being transported from somewhere far away.
  • Freshly produced food loses nutrients quickly and locally grown food, purchased soon after harvest will still have more nutrients than supermarket food which has sat on a shelf for a number of days or weeks.
  • Local food will require less packaging to try and keep it fresh, which will reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
  • Buying food produced locally builds communities and preserves open spaces. By supporting local producers we support the people who look after the land and by giving them more of an income there is less chance of them having to sell the land for development. We all enjoy living in the country and by supporting the people who look after it we support the agricultural landscape we see and live in.

Traceability

By buying locally, often from the producers themselves, you speak to the local suppliers and you know where the food comes from.
